How’d you like to win $10,000 in prizes plus bragging rights to being the best band in Williamson County high schools? Apply online and you may get a chance to perform live on stage at The Heritage Foundation’s Main Street Festival on Sunday, April 29, and walk away with amazing prizes that will help you take your music to the next level!

The competition is open to soloists, small groups, and full bands that are currently enrolled in any public, private, or registered home school High School program in Williamson County, and it’s easy to enter.

Apply (Deadline Extended: Midnight, Wednesday, April 18, 2018)

The Battle of the Bands is open only to current Williamson County high school students. If you have a band, at least one band member must be a current Williamson County high school student.

You may enter in one of three Categories: Soloist, Small Group (2-3 musicians and singers), or Full Band (3 or more musicians including drums, bass, guitars and/or keys, vocals).

To apply, include links to 2 examples of your music. Links can be to recordings or videos of any quality (smartphone, home studio, professional studio).

3 Finalists in each Category will be notified by Saturday, April 21.

Finalists will need to prepare 2 songs to perform on the Battle of the Bands stage Sunday, April 29, between Noon and 3:00 p.m., at The Heritage Foundation’s Main Street Festival, in Franklin. Your exact performance time will be determined after Finalists are selected.

If you are selected as a Finalist, we will be in touch to discuss your production, sound and lighting needs. We will provide a 4-piece drum kit, bass amp, 2 guitar amps, microphones, and an iPod or similar if you use tracks. Any additional equipment you want to bring must be approved in advance. You will also be asked to sign a performance agreement, a release form and if under age, a parental consent form.

Process

Once you upload two examples of your music, judges from the Dark Horse Institute faculty will rate them using three criteria:

  • Vocals
  • Musicianship
  • Song selection

If selected as a Finalist, your live performance at the Battle of the Bands will be rated using five criteria:

  • Vocals
  • Musicianship
  • Song selection
  • Appearance and stage presence
  • Audience reaction

Prizes

  • All 9 Finalists will win a Level 3 Prize Package
  • All 3 Category Winners (best Soloist, Small Group, or Full Band) will win a Level 2 Prize Package
  • One Grand Prize winner will be selected from the 3 Category Winners and will win the Level 1 Prize Package which includes $5,000 worth of studio time at world-famous Dark Horse Recording in Franklin, plus $5,000 in scholarship money towards Dark Horse Institute programs in Audio Engineering or Music Business. (You must be a high school graduate to attend Dark Horse Institute.)
