Dark Horse didn’t start as a recording arts and music business school. In 1994, Dark Horse Recording began as a dream to create a refuge for recordings artists, producers and engineers. It would go on to become one of the most prominent recording studios in Nashville—a place where artists or writers could escape from their day-to-day distractions and focus on the creative process of recording. Since opening its doors some of the world’s most popular music and recording artists have recorded at Dark Horse such as: Taylor Swift, Hunter Hayes, Relient K, For King And Country, Megadeth, Korn, Keith Urban, Alison Krauss, Jewel and many more. It’s this history that provided the foundation to add a school for the recording arts and music business on the premises.
The audio engineering program grew so quickly that in 2013, the school expanded to a larger space with a studio based around an SSL G series console and another based around a Trident Series 80 console with multiple live rooms and Yamaha C7 piano. The studio has further expanded to house the music business program in the Factory, just outside of Nashville,TN.
Over the years, Dark Horse has provided on-the-job training to hundreds of young men and women in the fields of audio engineering, music production and music business with one goal—to prepare them for a successful career in the music business.
