Our Advanced Mixing Online course is a 20-week certificate program built on a real-world, hands-on, full-immersion approach to learning — blending flexibility with mentorship.
This program, like all Dark Horse Institute programs, is designed to help accelerate your growth as a music maker. You will get on-demand video lessons and tutorials, real-world practice, and most importantly real-time feedback on your efforts from a collection of industry professional mentors.
You’ll get expert instruction and hands-on experience in evaluating mixes, prepping DAW sessions, working with the Six Mix Tools, mixing in various genres, working with a wide variety of instruments, and powerful mix template techniques. You will also get an overview of mixing for spatial audio, post-production audio, and mastering for various formats.

DHI’s Advanced Mixing program combines the best features of online learning with flexible scheduling and on-demand content, while also providing the best attributes of face-to-face mentorship. This program is a synchronous 20-week process, with twice per week meetings over Zoom to learn from professional mixers directly, and to workshop ongoing projects for helpful feedback on student work. By using full-resolution audio streaming, screen sharing, and screen control features it is easy for the mix mentors and students to see, listen, and even interact with the mixing in real-time — a feature which is increasingly being used within the industry to collaborate on mixes from across the globe.
Our instructors and mentors have decades of experience recording a “who’s who” of recording artists from all genres of music. They’ve worked on Gold, Platinum, and Grammy® winning albums and will be sharing their tips, tricks, and tools of the trade with you firsthand.
Our Advanced Mixing Online Program is a 20-week, 240-hour program divided into 17 modules. Mondays and Thursdays will be live with a mentor from 6-9pm CST, for a total of 120 hours of interactive mentorship throughout the course. There will be two real-world mixing projects during which you’ll build a professional portfolio and a public site to promote your work.
