Investing In Studio Gear

So much of the recording process has become computer based and you can do almost anything on a laptop these days. So why should you buy outboard gear or studio equipment? I have nothing against the use of software and plugins, and I use them myself, but I think they can only get you so far. There is just something about having an actual piece of gear with knobs and buttons. One of the great things about outboard gear is that it is always backwards compatible. We are still using some of the same pieces of gear that people were using to record 50 years ago. You are not always going to see that with software and plugins and there are some that have already died out that aren’t even 5 years old.
